It's been a while since I ran into this but if I remember correctly I would occasionally have to repeat the process to get it straightened out but I was always able to get up and running again with this method. The plugin formats use the same algorithm when it comes to sound, however, the layouts and design of each plugin format(AAX, VST, AU) will differ slightly. Usually Pro Tools will then scan them properly. Reopen Pro Tools and after it's opened normally replace the problem plugins back into the AAX folder. When I've encountered this what worked for me is to remove the problem plugins from the AAX folder and put them temporarily in a folder on the desktop. The AAX plugin location is the same for Pro Tools, Media Composer, Pro Tools First, and Media. I have not connected any Apple product on my computer, have tried a couple of restarts, thrashed prefs, deleted InstalledAAX file, and nothing would work for me. I don't have Pro Tools and to be honest I never noticed the aaxplugins before the issue was raised here.Įvidently, on my current PC the following plugins gave me some *.aaxplugin files: Melodyne, SPAN (Voxengo), RaptureSession_64, Ozone8Elements, and a while bunch from NI (including Komplete Kontrol)-less than 2 dozen. I don't typically have Steinberg in my VST scan paths, so those plugins will remain lost until I move them into my main VST folder. I also find that some installers will drop VSTs in a Steinberg folder for some reason, without asking. Unfortunately some plugin installers don't give you a choice. You only need AAX if you are running Pro Tools.
